Pronunciation: \am-ˈbi-shəs\

Date: 14th century
1 a: having or controlled by ambition b: having a desire to achieve a particular goal : aspiring

I am leaning towards definition 1-b.
I am teaching myself(with the help of a pamphlet) how to crochet.
My goal?
To finish this:

I figure if I do my average of 2 rows per day (not much, but my left hand gets cramps really bad!!!), I will finish in about 2 months.

I had that same pattern and tried to teach myself. I either wasn't very good at it or didn't have enough patience. Needless to say, I didn't ever get it done. I love the colors you chose. Keep it up. It will be beautiful!

I have one like that that I started (with good intention) for Sarabeth's birth. If all go well and the river don't rise, I may get it finished when she has her first child.
